NXIVM Sex Cult Leader Keith Raniere Sentenced To 120 Years In Prison

Keith Raniere, the former leader of the NXIVM sex cult, has been sentenced to 120 years in prison. Raniere was convicted last year on a laundry list of charges, including federal sex trafficking, racketeering, and child pornography possession.

Raniere claimed he was the leader of a self-help group in upstate New York, but prosecutors said he blackmailed his female victims into becoming sex slaves. During the trial, some of Raniere's victims testified about the depraved conditions he forced them to live in.

They described being branded, starved, tortured, and forced to have sex with Raniere and others.

Raniere maintained his innocence, accusing his victims of lying in court before his sentencing.

"They're lying for a reason, and that reason stems from me," he said. "I do feel deep remorse, but I do not feel remorseful for the crimes I did not commit."

Brooklyn federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis blasted Raniere for his comments and for refusing to take responsibility for his actions.

"To him, the brave victims … are liars," Garaufis said, according to the New York Post. "Mr. Raniere remains unmoved. … [He] has therefore failed to demonstrate remorse," instead maintaining "to this day that he's done nothing wrong," the judge said.
