CLEARWATER -- Just in time for spring break, the city of Clearwater is offering pay by text to park downtown or on the beach.
The partnership with Flowbird means drivers may pay for parking directly from their phones without opening an account or downloading an app.
Drivers who park in a space are expected to text 'CLEARWATER' to 727563. They then get a secure link to enter parking details, including license plate, time, and payment information.
The city says the Pay by Text solution is PCI-DSS certified and that data is protected. The city hopes to make it more convenient to pay for parking and reduce citations.
