Triple A: Pump Prices Could Decline

Though prices at the pump are expected to ease in the coming months, the AAA auto club said Florida motorists paid an average of $3.08 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas Monday, up 3 cents from a week earlier. The average jumped to $3.14 on Thursday before decreasing over the weekend.

“Historically, gas prices trend lower in the second half of the year,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a prepared statement.“ However, the early fall months can bring some volatility, as refineries begin seasonal maintenance and the threat of hurricanes remains. However, these factors could be offset by reduced fuel demand, now that the busy summer travel season is over."

Nationally, motorists paid an average of $3.20 a gallon Monday, up a penny from a week earlier, according to AAA.
