The Tampa Bay Rays (21-12) defeated the San Francisco Giants (13-21) 2-1 in ten innings on Sunday afternoon to sweep the three-game interleague series. With the win, the Rays have now won three in a row.
Casy Schmitt gave the Giants a 1-0 lead with a RBI single in the first inning. That would remain the score until the eighth inning, when Ryan Vilade hit a sacrifice bunt to tie the game 1-1. All tied after nine innings, the Rays were able to keep the Giants off the board in the top of the tenth, before Jonathan Aranda hit a RBI single in the bottom of the tenth to lead the Rays to the walk-off win.
Steven Matz got the start and allowed one earned run on four hits in his six innings of work in which he struck out one and walked two. Ian Seymour (1-0, 5.87) got the win out of the bullpen after working a perfect top of the tenth inning.
The Rays remain at home and will host the Toronto Blue Jays for a three-game series beginning on Monday night. Nick Martinez (2-1, 1.70) s scheduled to start on Monday for the Rays.
