Orange County Swears in New Leaders

Orange County has officially installed its new county mayor and county sheriff.

Jerry Demings, the former Sheriff of Orange County, was sworn in as the new County Mayor.

John Mina was sworn in as the new Sheriff.

Both men were sworn in less than an hour from each other.

Demings won the race for County mayor in August, replacing Teresa Jacobs, who left the post and was subsequently elected to the county school board.

Demings becomes the first African-American to hold the post as mayor of Orange County.

Mina, who was endorsed by Demings, takes the post after serving as the Orlando Police Chief.

The timing of the ceremony allowed Demings to swear Mina into office.
